Advocacy - Urge Congress and Nudge Senators to Pass FY2024 Funding and LIHTC

Excellent morning, Carolinas Council and Happy Hump Day!

Some of us look forward to Wednesdays - considering they mark the halfway point through the typical work week - while others dread "Hump Days". I'm here to help you get over the weekday hump and have a happy Wednesday. How? First, I want to say THANK YOU and remind you of how supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (aka extraordinarily great advocates) you are. I venture to say that your sending 1,204+ letters to congress over the last few weeks attributes to the progress Congress has made on the spending and LIHTC bills. Second, I invite you to join me in building on these moments of joy and gratitude into your Hump Day by taking only 5 minutes to send 2 very important letters (see below).

Urge Congress to Pass a Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Funding Budget!
Congress still has not finalized funding for Fiscal Year 2024, which officially began on October 1, 2023. The government is currently running on short-term funding extensions called Continuing Resolutions (CR) that create uncertainty for government-funded programs. The CR funding HUD programs is set to expire on Friday, March 1.

Congressional leadership has made some progress on spending bills, but it is still unclear if they will meet the early March deadline or if they will need yet another extension. NAHRO's advocacy is more important than ever.

Nudge Your Senators to Pass LIHTC Measures in the Tax Bill!
There is a bipartisan package of tax incentives currently moving through Congress. On January 31, the House of Representatives passed the package by an incredible vote of 357 - 70. The bill currently includes two provisions from the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act that would expand the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program.

We're hearing that the tax package is hitting roadblocks in the Senate. The Senate is focused on other priorities and may decide to slow down progress on the bill by sending it to committee for further discussion.

NAHRO's advocacy is more important than ever.

Thanks again for being amazing advocates for individuals, families and communities who are most impacted by the lack of housing resources. I'm #CCProud.
