Training Topics:

  • Course #1 (Thursday All Day) - The Methods of Moisture
This session will explore the critical issue of moisture transfer in buildings, a key factor in building durability, energy efficiency, and occupant health. Effective moisture control is essential to prevent issues such as mold growth, pest infestation, and material degradation. Understanding how moisture gets into the building enclosure lends to a practical understanding of the importance of three core building components: air sealing, insulation, and mechanical ventilation.
Speakers: Drew Corbett & Kevin Scott with Moderator Nikia Beal from Energize Carolinas

  • Course #2 (Thursday Morning) - HOTMA Implementation and Compliance Updates
This session provides an in-depth review of the Housing Opportunity Through Modernization Act (HOTMA) and its impact on occupancy and eligibility determinations. Participants will explore key regulatory changes, updated income and asset rules, and implementation timelines to ensure full compliance. Real-world examples and case studies will highlight common challenges and best practices for accurate application.
Speaker: Jillian Baldwin with Moderator Diedra Perry from Baldwin & Associates

  • Course #3, #5, & #8 (Thursday & Friday) - ED Track Sponsored by NCHARRP
Topics and speakers for this track are still being finalized. Further information and updates will be communicated as they become available.

  • Thursday Lunch Guest Speaker - How to make sure your Benefits Broker is working for you?
Chris Smollen and Laurie Duncan will go over in detail how agents should be shopping the market each year at your renewal, as well as new regulations, online admin systems, service and what is happening in the benefits world today.
  • Course #4 (Thursday Afternoon) - Rent Calculations Made Simple
This interactive session breaks down the rent calculation process for both Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher programs. Attendees will learn step-by-step methods for determining total tenant payment, adjusted income, and utility allowances. The session emphasizes accuracy, documentation, and recent HUD guidance to help staff avoid errors and maintain program integrity.
Speaker: Jillian Baldwin with Moderator Diedra Perry from Baldwin & Associates

  • Course #6 (Friday Morning) - Combustion Safety & Efficiency
This session provides a comprehensive overview of residential combustion appliance safety inspections, with a focus on Combustion Appliance Zone testing. Participants will learn how to identify and repair drafting issues associated with gas and oil-fired appliances, such as furnaces, and water heaters. Key inspection protocols will include visual assessments, carbon monoxide testing, and spillage checks alongside step-by-step guidance on conducting CAZ testing to evaluate depressurization and back drafting risks.
