Training Topics

Course #1: Financials for All Staff and Commissioners
Brian D. Alten, CPA, BDO USA, LLP

On Monday and Tuesday, Brian Alten, CPA with BDO, will present financial training for ALL: Executive Directors, Commissioners, Property Managers, and Accounting Staff that are new or just need a refresher on best practices.

Topics will include:

• Reading budget vs. actual statements
• Creating an entity-wide budget
• Interpreting the budget variances
• Distinguishing between profit and cash
• LIPH, HCV, CFP, and other grants and programs
• Financial reports: balance sheet and cash flow report will be discussed and explained in simple-to-understand terms.
• Cost Allocation plans and eligible costs per 2 CFR 200 will also be covered.

Much, much more will be presented in this training opportunity that you will not want to miss! Brian will review the chart of accounts, month-end closing, and year-end closing requirements. The session will wrap up with a "10-minute Crunch" analysis drill.

Course #2: HUD Discussions/Updates
Sheila M. Hester, Director; and Hiram Roman-Cintron, HUD Field Office, Greensboro, NC

On Monday, Sheila M. Hester, Director, and Hiram Roman-Cintron with the Greensboro HUD Field Office and Team will update us on the following:

• HOTMA-Latest Rules
• PIC- System
• IVT-Income Verification Tool under EIV
• FSS Changes-Grant and Labor-Davis Bacon

Course #3: Maintenance
Brandon Reddick, and Paul Burmeister Ferguson Facilities Supply

On Monday, Brandon Reddick and Paul Burmeister with Ferguson Facilities Supply will train on all the new HVAC requirements that went into effect at the beginning of 2023 and the new refrigerant standards. On Tuesday, Darren Nadeau will lead a group discussion among Housing Authorities attendees discussing various issues and topics that maintenance staff face on a day-to-day basis. Come or send your maintenance to take part in this needed training and to bounce ideas off each other at the group discussion.

Course #4: HUD's EPIC System (Tuesday Morning)
Sheila M. Hester, PIH Director; and Hiram Roman-Cintron, Engineer General, HUD Field Office, Greensboro, NC

On Tuesday morning, the HUD team will present the HUD EPIC system for us. This will be a very informative session to attend. You will get a better understanding of this system for your future use.
